The Silver Jubilee is a special occasion for the Academy. As a historical milestone it indicates our existence for a quarter of a century, and while significant, is indicative of the youthfulness of our organisation. This is not surprising as our country is not much older.
We have made progress and there remains a great deal more to be achieved. Just as our country is developing rapidly, so we in the medical profession have to keep pace with development, and the Academy has a role to play in providing leadership in the development of Malaysian medicine. As an organisation that comprises many specialties in medicine, the Academy is well positioned to perform this role. While this role may not always be comfortable, it is one that is increasingly being accepted as evidenced by our representation on the Postgraduate Board in the Ministry of Education.
While we need to look to the future, it is important that we know our past. This publication has been prepared through the initiative of Datuk Mr. G.A. Sreenevasan, a past Master and present member of Council and Dr. Lim Say Wan, the immediate past Master and their committee which tells us of our past and present. I hope you will enjoy reading it.
